A LITTLE BEAN
A little bean asks us "to wake up and smell the coffee," to face the unjust conditions under which our favourite drink is produced and to decide what we can do about it. The film traces the tangled trail from the two billion cups of coffee consumed each day back to the coffee farmers who produce the beans. Our journey leads us to the country of Burundi in the heart of Africa and quickly realized that there is a way to make a lasting difference, and that is through the coffee.
In Burundi, a country which ranks among the very poorest in the world, the coffee farmer is in many ways the backbone of the nation. Over 90% of the population depends on agriculture to survive, while coffee and tea make up over 90% of the country’s exports. And it just so happens that Burundi produces some of the best quality coffee in the world.
Through the documentary we connect the grower with the drinker, sharing their stories, hopes, dreams and the dire needs to be met. At its heart are the voices of the farmers who grow and pick the worlds greatest coffee. We explore the world of coffee in a complete new way and show the hope of Africa growing from a little bean called coffee. The documentary is part of Africa Fresh Coffee.
