MESSAGE FROM TIM THERON:
South Africa has seen a quiet resurgence in the quality of film and television projects, both fiction and non fiction, produced for our diverse audience. Slowly our industry is rebuilding itself, moving from a maninly service industry, supplying crew and infrastructure to international producers, to a fully fledged creative industry through which we are starting to tell our own stories, in our own way. Importantly, there has been a marked improvement in the quality of these projects, and soon they will take their place on the international stage. Storiedorp is one such a project about which I’m extremely excited, and which personifies this entire movement in the industry. South Africa is a veritable treasure chest of stories, some of them tall tales and myths passed down through generations, others recorded as historical fact, but all of them unique to us as South Africans. It’s in these stories that we find our shared identity across the borders of culture and language, find a unique and united picture of who we are that we can proudly show the rest of the world. It’s these stories that Storiedorp will aim to find and bring to life in ways that has never been done before, and that I’m sure will cultivate a new appreciation of what it means to be part of this beautiful country.
